A Whole New Way to Knit

who acts?

Before our Meeting bought the Meetinghouse, someone etched a verse from Philippians
in the concrete near the back door:

Philippians 2:13 For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

When I first encountered this verse, it struck me powerfully as our charge: to attend to the voice of the Goddess so that we can do her work in the world.

Like many simple charges; it’s harder than it sounds. It’s easy to lose sight of the voice of Spirit in the melee of human existence. It’s easy to let other values supersede the call of Love and Truth.

Love and Truth are like two strong horses yoked to a chariot. When they move together, they have tremendous beauty and power. Things don’t work so well when they pull in different directions.

I invite you to consider the following queries with me:

  • How do we keep our sights fixed on Spirit as we choose our speech and actions?
  • How do we speak our deepest truths to one another in a way that honors the Spirit in other individuals?
  • How do we handle strife in our community?
  • Where is the Love?
  • How do we do God’s work while recognizing that of God in the work done by others?
  • How do truth and compassion inform us as we move forward?
  • How do we bring both truth and compassion to bear on the decisions we make?
  • What are we called to do when a member of our community lies to us?
  • What are we called to do when a member of our community betrays our shared values?
  • What is our corporate witness in the world at large?
